Beginning 1-3 DSLR Photography

 

This series goes from ground zero to understanding the basics of photography - ISO, Shutter, and Aperture - in three sessions. Each session is 2 hours in length.


This class focuses on the all-important anatomy of lenses, difference between types and categories of lenses, focal lengths and when to use them, creative effects of different lens types; compositional techniques and framing that will immediately improve your shooting, as well as overview of the camera parts and different systems it has, JPG and RAW and when
to use them, and creating a good work flow for your images.


The latter two sessions cover the Shooting Mode dial in more detail, including Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Program mode and what it does, exposure compensation, ISO technical aspects, Focusing and Drive modes, as well as understanding additional foundational compositional techniques utilizing the elements of art and principles of design.

 

Hands-on shooting is integrated into the sessions. May also be taken on a Saturday back to back as a seminar when available.

Advanced 1-3 DSLR Photography
 

This series continues from the Intermediate series by continuing to shoot in full Manual mode,  understanding the camera's peripheral systems and exploring further compositional techniques. In three sessions.  Each session is 2 hours in length.

 

Covers various creative techniques in Manual mode, planning to create good images, metering modes for unique situations, understanding your histogram, and final compositional techniques incorporating the elements of art and principles of design into your imagery.

 

It also covers utilizing your on-camera flash to achieve good exposure, including an understanding of how flash and

ambient light work together, and utilizing flash exposure compensation to precisely control your on-camera flash output.


Hands-on shooting is integrated into the sessions. May also be taken on a Saturday back to back as a seminar.

Intermediate 1-3 DSLR Photography

 

This series continues from the Beginning series by applying and integrating ISO, Shutter, and Aperture with metering into your shooting and deepening your understanding of the camera's peripheral systems. In three sessions.  Each session is 2 hours in length.

These sessions cover a review of shooting in semi-manual Priority modes, and when to use these modes.  They teach how ISO, shutter and aperture work together in Manual mode and how to get the exposure you want without guessing by using the camera’s built-in light meter.

 

They cover lighting scenarios such as back-lighting and lens flare. They introduce white balance, what it means, and how

to apply it creatively to your images as well as

 

They also show you how to integrate additional elements of art and principles of design into your image compositions.

Sessions may be taken on different days or on a Saturday back to back as a seminar.
